MINUTES FROM THE BLUE RIDGE CLUSTER MEETING
AUGUST 21, 2000
Teams Represented: Beaufort, Cherokee, Clinton, Greenwood, Hartsville,
Laurens, Newberry, Rock Hill, Sumter, and Orangeburg.
Teams Without Representation: Berkeley, Hendersonville, Pickens and
Spartanburg.
President Lucinda Davis called the meeting to order. The proposed rule
changes were passed out.
The following changes were discussed and voted upon:
Newberry proposed the distance for the 13 & 14-year old
age group and the 15 and above age group return to 50 back, 50 breast, 50 fly,
and 100 IM for the summer season. YMCA Nationals recognizes these events for
the long course season. Swimmers may use their yard times to obtain a cut
time. The question was put to a vote, and passed. Effective summer 2001.
Newberry proposed that for YMCA National qualifying
purposes, the rule of fielding a natural relay be wavered if prior permission
is obtained from the host team. This will allow a 12-year-old swimmer to swim
on the 15 and up relay. The relay must be declared an exhibition relay when
entries are sent in. The question was put to a vote, and passed. Effective
immediately.
Sumter proposed that master swimmers (adults) be allowed to
swim as exhibition in cluster meets, including championship. Master swimmers
must meet the same qualifications for YMCA Nationals as age group swimmers.
The question was put to a vote and passed. Effective immediately.
Secretary Pam Hutton announced her resignation as league
secretary. Pam's family is moving to PA.
The following individuals were elected to fill league
offices:
