MINUTES FROM THE BLUE RIDGE CLUSTER MEETING
March 3, 2001
Teams Represented: Beaufort, Cherokee, Clinton, Greenwood, Laurens, Newberry, Sumter, Hendersonville, Pickens, and Orangeburg.
Teams Without Representation: Berkeley, Hartsville, and Rock Hill
President Wayne Jones called the meeting to order. The proposed rule changes were passed out.
The following changes were discussed and voted upon:
Newberry proposed that the term mixed relay not be used when referring to a boys relay team. After much discussion, it was voted that event though girls may swim on a boys relay, it should be called a boys relay, and listed that way in the heat and result sheets. Rulebook currently reflects this.
Hendersonville wanted a standard order of events. It was pointed out that the league rules have a standard order of events, and it should be followed. The only exception is in the summer when the championship meet takes place over a two-day period. Rulebook currently reflects this.
Hendersonville proposed the championship meet be a set weekend each season. After much discussion it was decided that is not possible.
Hendersonville wanted every club to purchase and/or arrange to have meet manager used at all meets. Discussion followed. You cannot tell a team, they must purchase meet manager. It is encouraged if you do not own a copy of meet manager, to try and arrange for another team to help run the meet using their software.
Hendersonville proposed moving up swimmers more than one age group to make relays. Discussion and vote followed. The current rule held up. Swimmers may move up one group only for a relay.
Cherokee wanted all meets to be turned in electronically. Again the issue came up that some teams do not use a meet program. After much discussion of teams not turning in meet results in a timely manager, it was decided the only recourse a team has is to contact the offending Y's executive director.
Wayne Jones clarified individuals must meet the eligibility requirements to qualify for the championship meets. It is the coach's responsibility to schedule adequate meets to qualify their swimmers. In the event that a swimmer, due to circumstances beyond his control, must have one meet to qualify, the coach may make a request to the executive board to have that swimmer enter a regular scheduled meet. The host team must be in agreement and the swimmer would not be eligible for awards at that meet.
The summer schedule was passed out, and teams signed up for meets.
The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully Submitted,
Dena Goeckner, Secretary
