MINUTES FROM THE CAROLINA YMCA SWIM LEAGUE

July 18, 2003

 

Teams Represented: Beaufort, Cherokee, Clinton , Columbia , Greenwood , Hartsville, Hendersonville , Newberry, Pickens,   Rock Hill , and Sumter .

 

Teams Without Representation: Berkley , Chester , Florence , and Orangeburg.

 

The meeting was called to order by President Mark Bartz.

 

President Bartz welcomed everyone to the meeting.

 

It was established who was voting for each team.

 

Minutes from the February, 28, 2003 meeting were approved as written.

 

The 2003-2004 winter schedule was established. Rock Hill was awarded the winter championship. The championship will be held on February 28 & 29, 2004 at Winthrop University .

 

RULE CHANGES

 

Hard copy of swimmers registration and check must be postmarked the day before a scheduled meet to the secretary for a swimmer to be considered registered. Passed  9 – 1.

 

Regular season meets will follow the same rules for relays as championship. Only one relay per team may score. If a team has more than one relay the second relay can block points from other teams. Passed 9 – 2

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

Winter championship to be held at Winthrop University . Saturday’s events will include 3 to 4 individual events and one relay. Sunday’s events will include the remainder of individual events and the free relay.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

League will provide banner to the team who wins championship meets. Standard banner for league, to be decided by the executive committee.

 

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

 

The following slate of officers was presented and accepted:

 

President  - Sid Collins (Pickens), Vice-President -  Bill Myers (Hartsville), Secretary -  Dena Goeckner (Newberry), and Treasurer -  Ashley Martin ( Clinton )

DISCUSSION

 

The league executive committee was charged with getting information about the costs of medals, trophies, etc for championship meets. The executive committee will look into the league providing awards instead of host teams. Some funding would have to go to the league, not just the host team to assure income for each season.

 

Provide trophies for boys and girls team as well as combined team winner at championship meets.

 

Coaches are asked to send a list of officials to the league head official, Catherine Carlson.

 

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
