MINUTES FROM THE CAROLINA YMCA SWIM LEAGUE JULY 18, 2008
Teams Represented: , Anderson, Beaufort, Berkeley, Cherokee, Chester, Clinton, Columbia, Florence, Greenwood, Hartsville, Hendersonville, Laurens, Newberry, Pickens, Rock Hill, Union, and Sumter.
Teams Without Representation: Orangeburg
The meeting was called to order by President Johnathan Bass at 6:10 PM.
President Bass asked for a motion to approve the March 1, 2008 meeting. Tom Schmidt motioned to approve, and Larry McMahan seconded the motion. The minutes were approved.
NEW BUSINESS The Union YMCA requested admittance into the league. Pam Lister motioned to accept them, Larry McMahan seconded the motion which passed. Union was welcomed into the league.
Clinton and Laurens will combine to become the Laurens County YMCA Swim Team.
President Bass read an E-mail from the CEO of Sumter. Several CEO’s and parents have expressed concern over the new championship meet format. This will need to be addressed at the winter meeting.
OFFICERS REPORT Presidents Report – Johnathan Bass reported that this past season ran very smooth, no problems.
Vice Presidents Report – Tom Karel committed how well all the meets ran this past season.
Treasurers Report – President Bass reported the account has $4,380.27. The executive committee decided to have statements go to a central YMCA instead of a home address. The account will be balanced by a Y employee. Margaret Nichols our league treasurer will oversee the account.
Member at Large - Mario Sobrinho reminded everyone to handle things one on one and to show respect for each other.
Webmaster – Don Kier reported he is missing a few meets from the summer season. He also purchased a copy of team manager and meet manager for the league.
Secretary – Dena Goeckner said there have been several fines this season for teams not turning in their results on time or getting the meet information out. . ELECTION OF OFFICERS Johnathan Bass presented a slate of officers for the upcoming year. President President – Tom Karel (Greenwood), Vice President Mario Sobrinho (Sumter) and Jeff Mead (Columbia), Secretary – Dena Goeckner (Newberry), Member at large – Raymond Kennedy (Hartsville) Head Official – Margie Orr (Newberry). Raymond Kennedy did not accept the nomination; Mario withdrew his name from the Vice President spot, and said he would like to be the member at large. Tom Schmidt motioned to accept the slate with proposed changes, Lynn Williams seconded the motion. The slate of officers was approved.
WINTERSCHEDULE Rock Hill and Columbia both bid on the winter championship, Rock Hill won the bid by vote.
Prior to establishing the winter schedule Rock Hill announced their meet fees will be $4.00, if swimmers are USA registered there will be an additional $2.00 charge. Sumter will also charge $4.00 per meet.
The 2008 – 2009 winter schedule was established.
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
